Shramshree Scheme in West Bengal

The Honourable Chief Minister of West Bengal state, Ms Mamta Banerjee, has launched this impactful rehabilitation initiative in August 2025, aiming to provide financial benefits to all those citizens working in other states as migrant workers who have faced harassment and disrespect for being Bengali. According to this scheme, the Government aims to provide financial help of INR 5,000 to all the migrant workers who have faced harassment, Discrimination, and Disrespect in other states for being a Bengali citizen and have returned to West Bengal.

Under this scheme, the Government will provide a one-time payment of INR 5,000 to cover the Transportation costs of returning home, along with providing them employment opportunities. As per the reports stated by the Officials till so far, about 8500 Migrant workers have already registered themselves under this scheme to get the assistance.

Objective of the Shramshree Scheme

The main objective behind this Shramshree Scheme is to empower all the Migrant Workers who have been harassed and disrespected in other states for being Bengali. According to this scheme, the Government will provide a financial grant of INR 5,000 as a transportation cost of returning to West Bengal to all the migrant workers who have faced Discrimination and disrespect in other states while doing their job.
